What a treat this site is. I just stumbled upon it. I'd like to know more about both The Game and Mikey's Dream.

Where in earth do I begin trying to explain these paintings. First of all I had an idea and it was all verbal inspiration. Then I began sketching to make the scene work practically. I took two months before I actually began to paint. Mikey's Dream Middle is the first of 8 paintings. Needless to say once I began to paint all kinds of things had to change.

You may see the Mysterious Woman appear at the top of the steps. Again I like the idea that the viewer can take what they want form the paintings. I have my own ideas of course.

So where do I go from here? My imagination seemed to have gone away after this body of work, so I began working on my technique. It is now time to move on, but I think there is no returning to the way I did things here. However, I did feel that The Mysterious Woman will have her part to play. It is possible that my imagination has been blocked because I have been afraid to confront her. Yet I think art may sometimes be about confrontation and we shouldn't be afraid of that. How many great artists are there who didn't confront issues and cross boundaries?

Many people believe that the characters in dreams represent people in the dreamers' lives. Who are the characters in your dream/paintings... and who do you think they represent?

Once you know that, it is time to take away the dream, and confront them within your painting-world. The good thing there is... you get to control the outcome.

My intention was that thse people in the painting are archetypes. The whole idea represents something outside of myself, although accepting I am part of the whole. However, it would be silly to think a painting couldn't be personal. I do not see these figures as actual people, but they may be the archetypes in my own life. The very fact of my using a self portrait seems to say as much. I think it's funny, me looking so casual and quite indifferent whilst surrounded by chaos. I'm not really like that, but probably seem to be to a lot of people who know me. I try not to get worked up about things.

The woman will be life size full length, so a fair size painting.

there's a piece of truth to every joke a comedian tells. there's a piece of the artist in every work the artist creates.
